Old Alfredians Golfing Society

Just for the record, the unofficial start of the Old Alfredians Golfing Society took place on 9 April 2017 at Carswell Golf & Country Club, Faringdon with Nigel Wain, Peter Harris, Paul East and Dave Richardson. Rumour has it that Nigel and Peter had an extremely lucky 3&2 victory!

The first official meeting took place this year on 6 July at Wrag Barn Golf Club. The round proved to be an excellent warm up for the main event on the following day at West Berks GC where a select field of eight battled it out for the inaugural Old Alfredians Golfing Society Cup which will be played for annually. Fortunately, the high temperatures provided no obstacle and some great golf was played by all participants.

A stableford competition was considered to be the fairest format. Final results: Paul East (39 points), Des Williams (37), Nigel Wain (35), Richard Edmonds (33), Steve Smith (33), Dave Richardson (28), Peter Harris (28) and David Wain (27).

Our thanks to Peter Harris and Des Williams for booking the tee times as well as arranging very favourable green fee rates.

The next OA Golfing Society meeting is on Friday, 5 July. Des has booked 4 tee times at Wrag Barn: 12.12, 12.20, 12.28 and 12.36. The 2019 OA Golf Trophy will be played for on Saturday, 6 July at West Berks GC. Tee times to be announced.
